ISO 8608 Profile Calculation
What is this ISO 8608 profile calculator used for ?
The ISO 8608 profile calculator enables the characteristics of a road profile to be analysed using parameters defined in accordance with the ISO 8608 standard. This international standard describes a method for presenting measurements of vertical road profiles.
This tool forms part of the analysis of the stresses generated by road irregularities on vehicles, axles and suspension systems.
It provides a better understanding of how the condition of the road surface affects a vehicle’s dynamic behaviour and is a useful aid for mechanical studies and simulations.
Your results will appear here after the calculation.
Model: quarter vehicle, imposed speed. The road profile is randomly generated according to the selected class, but it is the same for every calculation.
What is the ISO 8608 profile ?
The ISO 8608 profile is a representation of the vertical variations in a road surface along a route. The ISO 8608:2016 standard defines a uniform method for presenting data measured on roads, pavements and off-road terrain.
These profiles make it possible to characterise surface irregularities, in particular using power spectral density (PSD), which describes the distribution of profile variations according to their spatial frequency. This information can be used to study the vibrations and dynamic loads transmitted to the vehicle whilst driving.
The analysis of dynamic forces is a key step in studying the behaviour of an axle and its suspension. Depending on your application, the operating conditions and the mechanical stresses encountered, further expert assessment may be required.
