Obstacle Impact Calculation

What is this obstacle impact calculator used for ?

The PAILLARD kerb or pothole impact calculator enables you to estimate the dynamic forces exerted on an axle and its suspension when a vehicle or trailer passes over an obstacle.

By entering the details of your application, such as the depth of the obstacle, the speed at which it is traversed, the suspended mass and the suspension parameters, you will obtain an estimate of the forces generated during the passage.

This tool helps you to better understand the mechanical stresses to which your equipment may be subjected and to identify the parameters that influence its behaviour.

Your results will appear here after the calculation.

What is an obstacle impact ?

When a vehicle or trailer passes over an obstacle, such as a bump or an irregularity in the road surface, the axle and suspension are subjected to dynamic stresses. The intensity of these forces depends, in particular, on the height of the obstacle, the speed at which it is crossed, the vehicle’s mass and the suspension characteristics.

Analysing obstacle impact enables us to estimate the forces generated during such an event and to better understand the mechanical stresses exerted on the various components. This information is useful for analysing the behaviour of the axle, the trailer and the suspension under driving conditions.

Need further analysis ?

The analysis of dynamic forces is a key step in studying the behaviour of an axle and its suspension. Depending on your application, the operating conditions and the mechanical stresses encountered, further expert assessment may be required.

The PAILLARD design office will support you in assessing your requirements and finding solutions tailored to your project. Our team is on hand to discuss your application, clarify your technical constraints and guide you towards a suitable solution.
